12/15/2002 Archived Entry: "My Day"
Yesterday, I was out of town for my daughters' birthday parties at my ex-wife's house. My ex-in-laws were there and my ex-father-in-law actually talked with me for a while. That was the first time my inlaws have spoken to me since I divorced their daughter six or seven years ago. That was nice. I've missed them. They were a frequent part of my life for over 20 years before the divorce. I gave both of my daughters a $100 bill. They are both single mothers living on their own and basically just want money for gifts to help pay the bills.
I'm supposed to go to my son's tomorrow for a meeting with those Quixtar business people he wants me to get into business with. I spent all morning and part of the afternoon researching the business on the net. It turns out it's Amway. They've changed the name and come up with new terminology, but it's still the same product line and the MLM works the same. The main difference is that you order product online and have it shipped directly to you instead of having a pickup at your direct distributor's house. Now, I have nothing against Amway. Some people are making a good living at it. But, statistically, one in ten thousand Amway distributors (called IBO's in the new Quixtar terminology) reach the level of income I currently get from my adult website business. Can I make money from this? It really depends on whether or not they can support an internet-oriented sales market. I can't sell it in the traditional manner because I don't know anyone personally anymore.
One of the couples in my son's Quixtar upline just stopped by my house for a couple of hours. I really like them. They couldn't answer my questions, though. I will probably sign up as an IBO tomorrow just so I can explore the potentials. I kind of doubt that Quixtar has anyone in it with my particular set of skills, so I'm probably going to have to persuade the powers that be to implement some new stuff so people like me can market it. If they're unresponsive to that, well, the money I'll have involved is minimal and I'll simply not renew my IBO status next year. It's worth a try.
We spent a few hours today bannering the eight versions of the new website separately according to the particular site rules each of the eight AVS's have in place. Tomorrow, I can actually go and sign up with each AVS and submit the site to them. That's when I'll find out all the rules I'm violating with each one. It's too bad you can't get all that information up front. You have to wait until they reject the site to find out what the rules really are. I've also got eight websites to update with new pictures this week. I need to work on that tomorrow, too. At least it feels good to be working on new projects again. This has been a pretty depressing year, just fixing broken stuff all year...
