I spent the morning struggling with the new website's various incarnations. The slave had put the entrance scripts up for the various AVS's I'm trying to list the site with. I could verify that one of them was working properly. Most of the AVS's did not give me a valid login to get into my own website through their entrance script, so I couldn't test them. On the ones that did give me a login, we had problems with our htaccess script on all but one. Our bad. I think we've got those fixed now. I'll test them again tomorrow. The rest of the AVS's didn't give me a login or the referrer strings I need to configure htaccess, so I had to write to them again asking for those. It seems like that is something that they must have to deal with daily. Why not just make the webmaster's webmaster ID good on his own sites and post the htaccess info in their webmaster's resource area? How hard is that? It feels like I'm dealing with real amateurs here. I bet they're making a lot more money than me.
I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I hired a couple of college kids to do some custom scripting for me. The same project that I hired someone in the Republic of Moldova to do. He seems to be taking a lot of time on it, so I mentioned the project to the kid who set up my networking here. He said he had friends at school who can write code and put me in touch with one of them. Once that kid understood what I wanted, he had the project done the next day. I won't say what the project was (or maybe I already did in an earlier entry) because I don't want other webmasters to develop code like this. One person with this code can't mess things up too much. A hundred people with this code would definitely ruin things. I don't think the kids really understood its application, so I'm not too worried about them marketing it successfully. It's hard to sell a product if you don't really know what it does.
Anyway, they came over today with the scripts and I paid them for them. When I get a chance, we'll do some testing. The kid who did the actual coding was everything I expected. Skinny, lots of arm movement and agitation when he talked, sort of trembling or vibrating when he was silent, his eyes looked in different directions, limp sweaty handshake, and a complete cluelessness about social conventions. It's really a shame that guys like this can't get laid, because they are an incredibly valuable resource in today's world and I think they deserve pussy. I loaned some to a guy like this a few years ago. He came to me for help, all nervous, because he had met a woman on the internet and she was coming to spend a weekend with him, and he was still a virgin at the age of 34. So, I rented a hotel room and brought a woman over to take his virginity while I waited in the restaurant. (She was kind of turned on by the idea of taking a 34 year-old cherry.) I can't help picturing the guy with her blood all over him as he spasms in pain on the bed from his charliehorse... I didn't discuss it with him, though. Some memories should be held close.
